United States Cellular Corporation operates as a wireless telecommunications service provider in the United States. The company offers wireless services in postpaid and prepaid service plans with voice, messaging and data services. It provides smartphone messaging, data, and Internet services that allow the customer to access the Web, social network sites, email, text, picture, and video messaging, as well as to browse and download various applications. The company also offers enhanced multimedia services comprising digital radio, mobile TV, and 3D gaming; and enhanced data services, including news, weather, sports information, games, ring tones, and other services. At May 3, 2013, it provided wireless voice and data services to approximately 5.7 million customers. In addition, the company operates retail stores that sell a range of wireless devices, including handsets, modems, mobile hotspots, and tablets, as well as accessories, such as carrying cases, hands-free devices, batteries, battery chargers, memory cards, and other items to consumers and small businesses. Further, it sells wireless devices to agents and other third-party distributors for resale; and operates service facilities that provide servicing and repair for wireless devices, as well as enable customers to activate service and purchase wireless devices online. The company serves retail consumers and small-to-mid-size business customers in various industries, including such as construction, retail, professional services, and real estate. It offers its products and services through retail sales and service centers, direct sales, third-party national retailers, and independent agents. The company was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. United States Cellular Corporation is a subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc.
