It operates in two segments, Health Care Distribution and Technology and Value-Added Services. The Health Care Distribution segment offers consumable products, small equipment, laboratory products, large equipment, equipment repair services, branded and generic pharmaceuticals, vaccines, surgical products, diagnostic tests, infection-control products, and vitamins. This segment also provides handpieces, preventatives, impression materials, composites, anesthetics, teeth, dental implants, gypsum, acrylics, articulators, abrasives, dental chairs, delivery units and lights, X-ray supplies and equipment, and equipment repair and high-tech equipment, as well as other medical and animal health products. The Technology and Value-Added Services segment offers software and related products, and value-added products that primarily include practice management software systems for dental and medical practitioners, and animal health clinics. Its services also consist of financial services, including e-services and continuing education services for practitioners. The company primarily serves dental practitioners and laboratories, physician practices, and animal health clinics, as well as government, institutional health care clinics, and other alternate care clinics. It operates in the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Mauritius, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The company was founded in 1932 and is headquartered in Melville, New York.
