The company conducts land drilling operations primarily in Oklahoma, California, Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Utah, Arkansas, New Mexico, Montana, North Dakota, and West Virginia; offshore drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico, California, Trinidad, and Equatorial Guinea; and international land drilling operations in Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Tunisia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. As of September 30, 2012, it had a fleet of 282 land rigs and 9 offshore platform rigs in the United States; 9 land rigs in Argentina; 7 land rigs in Colombia; 5 land rigs in Ecuador; 2 land rigs in Tunisia; 4 land rigs in Bahrain; and 2 land rigs in the United Arab Emirates. The company is also involved in the ownership, development, and operation of commercial real estate; and research and development of rotary steerable technology. Its real estate investments comprise a shopping center containing approximately 441,000 leasable square feet; multi-tenant industrial warehouse properties with approximately 1,000,000 leasable square feet; and approximately 210 acres of undeveloped real estate. Helmerich & Payne, Inc. was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
