Heart Valve Disease

Heart valve disease is a condition in which one or more of the heart valves do not work properly. The heart has four valves that open and close to control the flow of blood through the heart. When a valve does not open or close properly, it can cause the heart to work harder to pump blood, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, and fatigue. In some cases, heart valve disease can lead to serious complications, such as heart failure or stroke. Treatment for heart valve disease may include medications, lifestyle changes, or surgery.
