- Home Rule In Ireland
Home Rule in Ireland is a term used to describe the movement to establish self-government for Ireland within the United Kingdom. The Home Rule movement began in the late 19th century and was led by Irish nationalist leader Charles Stewart Parnell. The movement sought to establish an Irish Parliament in Dublin with the power to pass laws on domestic matters, while still remaining part of the United Kingdom. The Home Rule movement was eventually successful in 1914 when the British Parliament passed the Government of Ireland Act, which established a devolved government in Ireland. However, the Act was suspended due to the outbreak of World War I and was never fully implemented. The Home Rule movement was revived in the 1920s and eventually led to the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922.
