Alternative currencies, also known as alternative money, virtual currency, or digital currency, are forms of money that exist outside of the traditional banking system. They are not issued by governments or central banks, and are not backed by any physical commodity. Examples of alternative currencies include Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Ripple.
