Treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is aimed at slowing the progression of the disease and relieving symptoms. Treatment options may include medications, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, and, in some cases, lung transplantation. Medications used to treat IPF include antifibrotic agents, immunosuppressants, and corticosteroids. Oxygen therapy is used to help improve oxygen levels in the blood. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program of exercise and education to help improve breathing and quality of life. Lung transplantation may be an option for some people with IPF.
