Treatment of ovarian cancer depends on the stage of the cancer, the patient's age and overall health, and the patient's preferences. Treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, and/or immunotherapy. Surgery is usually the first step in treating ovarian cancer and may involve removing the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and/or other nearby tissues. Chemotherapy is often used after surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells. Radiation therapy may be used to target specific areas of the body. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy are newer treatments that use drugs to target specific cancer cells.
