Alpha-synuclein is a protein found in the brain that is involved in the formation of Lewy bodies, which are abnormal clumps of proteins that are associated with Parkinson's disease. Alpha-synuclein is also found in other parts of the body, including the heart, and is thought to play a role in the development of other neurological disorders, such as dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy.
