IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. develops, manufactures, and distributes various products and services for the companion animal veterinary, livestock and poultry, water testing, and dairy markets worldwide. The company operates in three segments: Companion Animal Group, Water, and Livestock and Poultry Diagnostics. The company offers point-of-care veterinary diagnostic products comprising instruments and consumables, such as blood and urine chemistry, hematology, quantitative immunoassay testing, and urinalysis analyzers; and rapid assays. It also provides veterinary reference laboratory diagnostic and consulting services; diagnostic and health-monitoring products for livestock and poultry; practice management systems that include hardware, software, and services; and digital imaging systems and services. In addition, the company offers products to test water for microbiological contaminants; and products to test milk for penicillin, amoxicillin, ceftiofur and cephaphirin, tetracycline antibiotic residues, and other contaminants. Further, it provides point-of-care analyzers and related consumables used in human medical hospitals and clinics to measure electrolytes, blood gases, acid-base balance, glucose, lactate, blood urea nitrogen, and ionized calcium, as well as to calculate other parameters, such as base excess and anion gap. Additionally, the company offers consulting services to veterinarians; water testing products to government laboratories, water utilities, and private certified laboratories; livestock and poultry diagnostic products to government and private laboratories that provide testing services to cattle, swine, and poultry veterinarians and producers; and milk testing products to dairy producers and processors. It markets and sells its products through marketing, sales, and technical service groups, as well as independent distributors and other resellers. The company was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Westbrook, Maine.
