As of December 31, 2012, it had a net ownership interest of 7,858 megawatts of generating capacity in operation. TransAlta Corporation has a strategic partnership with MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company to develop, build, and operate new natural gas-fired electricity generation projects in Canada. The company was founded in 1909 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.
