The company, through its subsidiaries, engages in the ownership, operation, management, leasing, acquisition, renovation, expansion, development, and financing of community and neighborhood shopping centers, and office properties, primarily in the Washington, DC/Baltimore metropolitan area. As of December 31, 2007, it operated 43 shopping center, 5 office operating properties, and 5 non-operating development properties. The company qualifies as a REIT under the Internal Revenue Code. As a REIT, it would not be subject to federal income taxes, if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its stockholders. Saul Centers, Inc. was founded in 1892 and is based in Bethesda, Maryland.
