United Community Financial Corp. operates as the holding company for The Home Savings and Loan Company of Youngstown, Ohio that provides consumer and business banking services in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. The company offers various deposit instruments, including regular passbook savings accounts, demand deposits, individual retirement accounts, checking accounts, money market accounts, and certificates of deposit. It originates conventional real estate loans secured by single-family residences and multifamily residences, as well as nonresidential real estate, including shopping centers, office buildings, hotels, and motels; and construction loans for one-to four-family residences, multifamily properties, and nonresidential real estate projects. The company’s loan portfolio also comprises commercial loans consisting of traditional lines of credit, revolving lines of credit, and term loans; and consumer loans, including home equity loans unsecured loans, vehicle loans, and overdraft protection loans, as well as loans to individuals secured by demand accounts, deposits, and other consumer assets. As of September March 22, 2013, it operated 33 full-service banking offices and 8 loan production offices located in Ohio and western Pennsylvania. The company was founded in 1889 and is headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio.
