Sterling Bancorp operates as a bank holding company for Sterling National Bank that provides various banking and financial products and services primarily in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The company offers various deposit products comprising checking accounts, money market accounts, negotiable order of withdrawal accounts, savings accounts, rent security accounts, retirement accounts, and certificates of deposit; and deposit services, such as account management and information, disbursement, reconciliation, collection and concentration, ACH, and others. It also provides consumer loans; asset-based financing; and business loans, including secured and unsecured lines of credit, business installment loans, business lines of credit, and debtor-in-possession financing to small and medium-sized businesses, industrial and financial companies, and government and non-profit entities. In addition, the company offers financing and human resource business process outsourcing support services that include back-office, computer, tax and accounting services to independently-owned staffing companies in the temporary staffing industry; residential mortgage warehouse funding services to mortgage bankers; and accounts receivable management services. Further, it provides equipment financing for various types of business equipment; residential and commercial mortgages consisting of real estate loans on one-to-four family residential properties, multi-family residential properties, and nonresidential commercial properties. Additionally, the company offers trade finance services, which comprise financing import and export transactions, issuing letters of credit, processing documentary collections, and creating bankers acceptances. It operates 14 offices in New York, including 11 offices in New York city, 2 branches in Nassau county, and 1 branch in Yonkers. The company was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in New York, New York.
