FBR & Co. operates as an investment banking and institutional brokerage company in the United States. The company operates through two segments, Capital Markets and Principal Investing. The capital markets segment offers capital raising services, including underwriting and placement of public and private equity and debt; and financial advisory services, including merger and acquisition advisory, restructuring, liability management, recapitalization, and strategic alternative analysis for consumer, diversified industrials, energy and natural resources, financial institutions, insurance, real estate, technology, media, and telecommunications sectors. This segment also provides institutional sales and trading services with a focus on equities, equity-linked securities, listed options, high-yield bonds, senior debt, and bank loans; and research coverage for institutional investors, such as mutual funds, insurance companies, hedge funds, banks, money managers, and pension and profit-sharing plans. The Principal Investing segment engages primarily in investing in merchant banking and other equity investments, investment funds, and corporate debt investments. The company was formerly known as FBR Capital Markets Corporation and changed its name to FBR & Co. in June 2011. FBR & Co. was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
