Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais S.A., through its subsidiaries, engages in the generation, transformation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electric energy primarily in Minas Gerais, Brazil. As of December 31, 2012, the company generated electricity at 59 hydroelectric plants, 3 thermoelectric plants, and 3 wind farms; had a total installed capacity of 7,038 megawatts; owned and operated 13,670 miles of transmission lines; and owned and operated 308,466 miles of distribution lines, through which it supplied electricity to approximately 7.5 million end-consumers. It also acquires, transports, distributes, and sells natural gas; engages in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas; provides signal transportation and access services for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint applications, primarily to telecommunications operators and Internet service providers on a clear channel basis; offers services related to the sale and trading of electricity in the Brazilian electricity sector; engages in the implementation and management of systems for electricity sector companies; and engages in the national and international consulting business that provides energy solutions to governments and public utility companies in the electricity industry. The company was founded in 1952 and is headquartered in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
