American National Bankshares Inc. operates as the bank holding company for American National Bank and Trust Company that provides financial products and services to individuals and businesses in Virginia and North Carolina. Its deposit products primarily include checking, money market, savings, demand, and consumer time deposits, as well as certificates of deposit. The companys loan portfolio consists primarily of commercial and residential real estate loans, commercial loans to small and medium-sized businesses, construction and land development loans, home equity loans, residential first and second mortgage loans, consumer loans, and agricultural loans. It also offers trust and investment services, such as estate planning, trust account administration, and retail brokerage services; and investment management services comprising purchasing equity, fixed income, and mutual fund investments for customer accounts. In addition, the company provides mutual funds, insurance products, Internet banking, and telephone banking services. As of December 31, 2012, it operated 25 banking offices and 2 loan production offices. The companys Virginia banking offices are located in the cities of Danville, Martinsville, and Lynchburg; and in the counties of Bedford, Campbell, Halifax, Henry, Nelson, and Pittsylvania. Its North Carolina banking offices are located in the cities of Burlington, Greensboro, Mebane, and Graham; and in the counties of Alamance, Caswell, and Guilford. American National Bankshares Inc. was founded in 1909 and is based in Danville, Virginia.
