It seeks to invest in private companies based in the United States. The firm seeks to invest between $10 million and $150 million in debt transactions. It provides equity capital, typically in conjunction with a debt investment for management buyouts of companies with enterprise value between $50 million and $500 million. The firm seeks control and non-control equity stakes in the portfolio companies. Allied Capital Corporation was founded in 1958 and is based in Washington, District of Colombia with additional offices in New York, New York and Chicago, Illinois.
